QSE Study Guide 2027: How to Prepare for Every PAVE Domain
From the January 2027 administration, the AAVSB's Qualifying Science Examination (QSE) follows a new outline with 155 scored questions: 54 in Foundations of Veterinary Medicine, 93 in Veterinary Medicine by System and 8 in One Health and Professional Standards. That means about 60% of your score comes from disease by body system, so your study time should follow the same split. This guide explains how to prepare for each domain, how to use practice questions, and what international candidates need to adjust for.

How the 2027 QSE Is Built
The QSE is the science exam in PAVE, the AAVSB's Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education Equivalence. The AAVSB says it tests the foundational science and pre-clinical knowledge typically covered in the first three years of an accredited veterinary curriculum. The new content outline takes effect after the September 2026 exam date.
