QSE Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Study Guide (PAVE)
"Principles of Anatomic and Clinical Pathology" is one of nine subcategories in Domain 1 (Foundations of Veterinary Medicine) of the AAVSB's 2027 Qualifying Science Examination (QSE) outline. It tests whether you can read a CBC, a coagulation panel, a chemistry profile, a urinalysis and a fluid analysis, and whether you can describe and interpret a lesion. Study it by pattern (what does this set of results mean in this species?) rather than by memorizing reference intervals. The AAVSB does not publish how many questions each subcategory has; the official figure is the domain weight, 54 of the 155 questions.
This guide is part of our QSE study guides by subject. It goes deeper than the pathology section of our pathology, imaging, pharmacology and surgery principles review, so read that first if you want the short version. Facts were checked on 7 October 2026 against the Merck Veterinary Manual, Cornell University's eClinPath and the AAVSB's Study for the QSE page. navleexam.com is not affiliated with AAVSB, AVMA, ICVA or PSI.
