Is My Vet School Eligible for PAVE? The AVMA Listed-Schools Check
Your school is eligible for PAVE if it appears in the AVMA's Directory of ECFVG-listed veterinary colleges. The AAVSB says the AVMA must list your school before you apply, and the same directory decides eligibility for ECFVG and for Canada's NEB process. If your school is missing, you (not the AAVSB) start a request with the AVMA, and your school and national government have to supply documents. This guide shows how to check, what the listing does and does not mean, and how to get a school added. It is part of our PAVE vs ECFVG series.
Last verified on 6 October 2026 against the AAVSB's PAVE application page, the PAVE Candidate Information Handbook, PAVE Standards and Policies (December 2025), the AVMA's ECFVG policies on listed colleges and the CVMA NEB FAQ (December 2025). This is general information, not legal or licensing advice; requirements change. Check the AVMA directory yourself and email pave@aavsb.org if anything is unclear. navleexam.com is not affiliated with the AAVSB or the AVMA.
The Rule in One Line
The AAVSB's application page puts it plainly: the AVMA-ECFVG must list your veterinary school in its Directory of Veterinary Colleges before you apply. The PAVE Candidate Information Handbook adds that you must be enrolled in, or have graduated from, a school on that list. Students can apply too, but the AAVSB will not schedule the QSE until you have completed at least 50% of your veterinary curriculum.
The listing is a gate, not a grade. It confirms that your degree comes from an institution formally recognized by the education authority in its country. It says nothing about the quality of the program.
