Free NAVLE Practice Questions 2026: 20 Questions With Answers
Below are 20 free NAVLE practice questions written in the same clinical-vignette format as the real exam, each with five options, a single best answer and a full explanation. They cover the species mix the NAVLE actually tests, from dogs and cats through cattle, horses, pigs, poultry, pet birds and rabbits, plus one regulatory question, so you can use them as a quick diagnostic of where you stand before you commit to a study plan.
What Real NAVLE Questions Look Like
The NAVLE is a 360-question, computer-based exam delivered at Prometric centres in twelve blocks of 30 questions, with 33 minutes per block. Every question is a single-best-answer multiple choice item with five options (A to E). Most are short clinical vignettes: signalment, history, a few exam or lab findings, and then one task, usually "most likely diagnosis", "most appropriate next step", "most appropriate treatment" or "mechanism of action". Roughly 15 to 20 percent of items include an image such as a radiograph, cytology slide, ECG or gross photograph. Scores are reported on a 200 to 800 scale and 425 passes; the exam is criterion-referenced, so you are measured against a fixed standard, not against the other candidates in your window.
Two things trip students up more than content gaps. First, the distractors are plausible: they are usually the second-best diagnosis or a treatment that would be right in a slightly different vignette. Second, the exam rewards knowing the standard, textbook answer rather than the answer your favourite clinician prefers. The questions below are written the same way.
