Egyptian Veterinarian to USA or Canada: Licensing Guide
A graduate of an Egyptian faculty of veterinary medicine can become a licensed veterinarian in the United States through the AAVSB's PAVE program or the AVMA's ECFVG program, followed by the NAVLE and a state board's requirements. In Canada the route runs through the CVMA's National Examining Board (NEB) and a provincial licensing body. Egypt is one of the seven countries the AAVSB names as sending the most PAVE candidates. This guide covers what is specific to Egyptian graduates: school eligibility, English, translating Arabic records, visas, Canada and costs in Egyptian pounds.
Last verified on 6 October 2026 against the AAVSB, the CVMA National Examining Board, ICVA and the US State Department. This is general information, not legal, licensing or immigration advice. Rules change, and US visa policy in particular changed several times in 2025 and 2026, so confirm each step with the AAVSB, the NEB and the State Department before you pay. Egyptian pound figures use a market rate of about EGP 52.4 per US dollar on 6 October 2026 and are approximate. navleexam.com is not affiliated with the AAVSB, AVMA, ICVA, CVMA or PSI.

The Short Answer
- Your degree (Cairo University, for example, awards a Bachelor of Veterinary Medical Sciences) does not by itself qualify you for a US or Canadian license. You need an equivalency program and the NAVLE.
- Eligibility depends on your faculty being on the AVMA ECFVG-listed directory.
- English: PAVE and the NEB accept a letter from your faculty if the whole program was taught in English. ECFVG requires a test from almost all Egyptian graduates.
- Translations: any Arabic on your records, including stamps and seals, needs a certified translation.
- Visas: Egypt is not on the State Department's visa suspension lists updated in February 2026, so student and work visas follow the normal process. A separate pause on immigrant visas announced in January 2026 was reported to include Egypt.
Step 1: Check Your Faculty on the AVMA Directory
PAVE, ECFVG and the NEB all require that your school appears on the AVMA ECFVG-listed directory. Listing is not accreditation; it only lets a school's graduates apply. If your faculty is missing, no one can enroll from it until it is added, and the ECFVG starts that process only when a candidate applies. The NEB's FAQ notes that the time needed depends partly on the language of communication and how quickly the school replies, so ask your faculty to name a contact person who can answer in English.
