Brazil to USA/Canada: A Guide for Brazilian Veterinarians
A veterinarian who graduated in Brazil can become licensed in the United States through PAVE (the AAVSB's Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education Equivalence) or ECFVG, and in Canada through the CVMA's National Examining Board (NEB). On the PAVE route you prove your English, pass the Qualifying Science Examination (QSE), complete a clinical year at an AVMA-accredited school and pass the NAVLE. Brazil is one of the main source countries: an AAVSB presentation in October 2025 listed it seventh among PAVE candidate countries. This guide covers the points that are specific to Brazilian graduates, starting with the one that rules people in or out: whether your school is on the AVMA directory.
Last verified 6 October 2026 against the AAVSB, the CVMA NEB and US government pages listed under Sources. This is general information, not legal, licensing or immigration advice, and rules change. Confirm each step with the AAVSB and the official bodies linked below. navleexam.com is not affiliated with the AAVSB, AVMA, ICVA, CVMA, CFMV or PSI.
