QSE PAVE and QSE

Is the PAVE QSE Hard? What the Data and Candidates Show

The QSE is a demanding exam, but nobody outside the AAVSB can tell you exactly how hard, because the AAVSB does not publish a current QSE pass rate. What we do have is older data on its predecessor exam, the AAVSB's own rules for candidates who fail repeatedly, and a small number of public forum posts from candidates. Together they suggest that most well-prepared candidates can pass, that a meaningful share do not pass first time, and that the difficulty comes mostly from breadth and from the North American framing of the questions.

This article sets out what is actually known, without guessing. For the exam format and the new 2027 outline, see our QSE 2027 guide. To find out where you stand, try our QSE practice questions mapped to the 2027 outline.
